Rootstock Overview

RSK, or Rootstock, is an EVM-compatible smart contract platform secured by the Bitcoin network, designed to enhance Bitcoin's capabilities with faster transaction speeds and lower costs compared to Ethereum. It operates as a sidechain using merged mining, allowing miners to simultaneously mine Bitcoin and RSK without additional resources. RSK introduces smart contract functionality to Bitcoin, enabling decentralized applications (dApps) to run on its network. With the Powpeg protocol, it facilitates seamless transfers of Bitcoin to and from the RSK blockchain, using its native asset, smartBTC (RBTC), pegged 1:1 with Bitcoin.
